Hillbilly Elegy (A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis)
The book Hillbilly Elegy was written by J.D. Vance, who has graduated from Yale Law School.
The topic of the book Hillbilly Elegy is the American Dream. The American Dream is a thing that
many people in USA and people around the world believes in. It is about achieve specific things, for
example, self-confident, wealth, freedom. People also does believe in the fact that if you work hard
enough you can reach your goal. But the reality is far from reality, and that is what J.D. Vance is
writing about.
In the beginning of his memoir, he writes in a way that makes it sound like he is standing and
talking to someone in front of him. “My name is J.D. Vance, and I think I should start with a
confession: I find the existence of the book you hold in your hands somewhat absurd.” (ll. 1-2). It is
an odd beginning in a book, but it catches one`s attention, and makes you want to find out why is
this book absurd. J.D. Vance also mentions that the American Dream also has something to do with
