The U.S getting fatter
Morgan Spurlock
made his famous
documentary
“Supersize
me”
back in 2004. In the
film, in which he
played the main
role, he only ate
McDonald food for
a period of 30 days
– 3 times a day,
seven days a week.
Morgan taking an overdose of
chips on official film poster.
Whenever
he
was
offered to upgrade his
menus
to
bigger
portions he did so, and
therefore he in most
cases had extra soft
drinks quantities - like 1
liter of coke instead of
half a liter.
The result of his
McDonald diet was
shocking.
The
32-year-old
Spurlock
gained 11.1 kilo or a
13% increase of his
body mass! He went
through moments of
depression
and
psychological
unrest.
Finally he was ordered
to finish his experiment
because his medical
advisers thought his
physical situation was
life threatening. It took
him 14 months to lose
the weight he gained
through the experiment.
The
reason
for
Spurlock’s experiment
was the rising spread of
obesity in the U.S.
society,
which
the
Surgeon General, the
leading spokesperson
on matters concerning
national US health,
called “epidemic” at the
time.
Nothing has changed
since then – or at least
