God weekend!
In the first 28 paragraphs of 1984, we are introduced to Winston Smith, the protagonist, and the oppressive world he lives in. Winston returns to his apartment, Victory Mansions, a rundown building in Oceania's capital, Airstrip One. It is a cold day in April, and the environment is grim and unwelcoming. Winston works for the Party at the Ministry of Truth, where he alters historical records to fit the Party’s agenda. Although he appears loyal, Winston secretly resents the Party and is filled with rebellion. His life is marked by fear, constant surveillance, and a deep sense of paranoia.
Winston is a frail, thin man in his late thirties, who struggles with both his health and the oppressive conditions of his society. His job at the Ministry of Truth involves manipulating the past to align with the Party's changing narrative. Outwardly, he follows the Party’s rules, but inside, he feels trapped in a system that controls every aspect of life. He is desperate for change but fearful of being caught for any sign of disobedience.
