Many things have been said about the death penalty through times, both in favour of and against it. The discussion has been going on for many years, and it will probably never end. After all, it is a discussion about life and death and whether or not it is ethically defendable to punish a man or woman by taking the person’s life. Many religious reasons have been mentioned in the discussion of the capital punishment. Some say Christianity is about love and “thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” but The Holy Bible also says “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth”, which can only be interpreted as “when a man does something bad to you, you can do the same to him without being a bad Christian.” America has the second highest rate of executions in the world, next to China, and is, as we know, a Christian country. Christianity is brought into the politics and even into The White House. Our dear president Bush is a good Christian himself. He feels with the families of murder victims and he feels that the man or woman responsible for the death of another good citizen does not deserve to live.
