How do you react to these “all bad, no good” statements? What is your own experience of mobile phones?
I think it’s overreacting saying that mobile phones are all bad and nothing good. Personally I think brain damaging is very rare and may happen if you use the mobile phone a lot. And if mobile phones do cause brain damages, then normal phones should as well. I, myself have never had any trouble with so called brain damages, not that I never use my mobile phone, but I should be using it constantly to have it get any reaction to my brain. The biggest problem is in my opinion the drivers and using a mobile phone meanwhile. They easily get distracted from the traffic because someone is calling them or they are receiving a SMS, and a solution would be to ban mobile phones while driving. I’ve seen many drivers driving with one hand, and talking in a mobile phone with others. It greatly reduces their ability to react in time if something occurs. Driving while writing SMS’s or talking in mobile phones is almost like driving with alcohol. If cheating with mobile phones during exams is that big a problem, the teachers should just take their phones before the exams, and they could get them back after. I have never had any or heard of any cheating with mobile phones. I don’t think it’s a good way to cheat, not that cheating is good, but how are they going to call their class mates, who also are in exams, anyways? And as the next statement says the teachers should take their mobile phones at the beginning of the day, and give them back after last lesson. Also that way they will be way more focused on lesson, instead of their mobile phones. At my school we have to deliver our mobile phones at the beginning of the first lesson, and we get them at the end of the last lesson. When young teenagers use their mobile phone almost all day long, it’s no wonder they get big bills. Either they will have to turn their consumption of the mobile phone, or they have to get a job to pay for it. But then it’s not okay to neglect their homework just to work overtime. I don’t think it’s necessary to ignore homework or work overtime to pay their bills, but if it is they really need to stop using their mobile phone that much. I can’t say I’m the big consumer when talking about mobile phones, but still, it takes a lot to get a bill on several hundred dollars. They say teenagers must be in contact with others all the time and they never “switch-off”. I don’t think it’s true; they might see themselves a bit lonely if they don’t have any contact at all, but then they can go visiting friends physically instead of doing it online. My own experience with mobile phones tell me that it is off course handy to have a mobile phone to get in touch with the people around you, but it also tells me that it’s not necessary.
