Stop banning students from using their phones in school….
I don’t understand why my school has made a phone ban. They are taking away a privilege from the students, and none of the students are fans of the decision.
Of course, the phone ban has its pros and cons, like for example the students need to be more social, and it can be easier to make friends without a phone in hand. But students are not always using their phones in a bad way, young people use their phone as a way of communicating with their friends, and the schools are taking that communication opportunity away from the students with their phone ban. I understand that some young people use their phones at inappropriate times, like in class, but instead of banning phones to avoid that problem, they should start including phones in classes. And as Katie, student year 11 said “One of the things we should learn in school is the skill of managing and moderating our mobile phone use.” so that's a thing my school can focus on instead. Another reason not to ban phones, is that it can make the students less motivated to go to school, because they do not see it as a good thing, but a punishment. Many young people see each other after school, which they plan while being in school, and if we as young people don't have our phones, we would miss out on a lot of activities and hanging out with friends.
