It is going to be now, four out of four in the Champions League for the English clubs.
Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are joined in the quarter-final draw by two Spanish teams (Villarreal and Barcelona), one Portuguese (Porto), and one German team (Bayern Munich). This is no coincidence, either, considering it has happened in successive years. With the dominance of English teams in Europe, especially in the Champions League, it does pose the question as to whether English teams are just getting better or whether the other leagues are getting worse. Three Premier League teams were pitted against Italian rivals. The English teams won all three matches. Manchester United, sitting pretty at the top of the table, comfortably beat Inter Milan, almost dominating over the two legs. Not even the self-styled "Special One", Jose Mourinho, could stop
United in their tracks. Admittedly the other two ties were pretty close in the end but the legs played in England were completely one-sided. Both Premier League teams could have taken a far bigger lead into the second leg. The smaller European leagues, such as the Portuguese and to a certain extent the French, cannot seriously compete at the top level any more. You cannot see another final with the likes of Porto and Monaco competing to lift the trophy with the big ears.
