The world’s largest and most prestigious football tournament in the whole entire world (When we’re talking football) is the Champions League, which is announced by the Union of European Football Associations, abbreviated UEFA.

76 is the total amount of the competitions participants. 32 teams enter the group stage, which are 2 games at the 2 battling team’s home field, which simply means that there’s 1 away game 1 home game for each club. This is a European tournament, and clubs outside of Europe as Santos in Brazil, Boca Juniors in Argentina and of course several more clubs which aren’t allowed to participate.

UEFA announced the Champions League in 1955, and in the beginning the tournament was called “The European Cup” and UEFA introduced in mid-July three knockout qualifying rounds and a play-off round. The 10 surviving teams enter the group stage, joining 22 other teams qualified in advance. The 32 teams are drawn into eight groups of four teams and play each other in a double.

Back in the 1990’s there were only one option if you wanted to join the “Champions Cup” or now called the “Champions League” you simply had to win the country’s number 1 league, as the tournament only were available for Champions. So yeah, you simply had to be a champion.
