The setting of this story is in England around 1914-1918 during World War one. I think so because they refer to the “Huns” in there zeppelins in the text. Which I believe means the Germans. And the reason I believe it’s during world war one is because of the zeppelins, which only were applied during the First World War and the Germans fought the Englishmen.
It’s a very depressing, and sombre atmosphere in the novel. It is taking place at night, and Charlie is very frightened sneaking around. Everything is strange to him. He is getting bullied at school because he has never smoked a cigarette before and he’s farther dos not really love him. He’s father comes home late at night with weird strangers. And Charlie is convinced that The “Huns” are monsters flying in the sky. The novel is a thriller, because of the sombre atmosphere and the strange and exciting action.
Charlie is a boy around 14 years old. I think so because he seems like a very ignorant and insecure boy. He does not smoke, and gets bullied at school. He also seems like a mothers-boy. But he is also a brave boy, who dares to steal cigarettes from he’s farther stash.
