The film was about Forrest Gump’s live form childhood (somewhere in the fifties) to his grown life. He was named after the national hero, Nathan Forest, leader of the Ku-klux-klan. The film started with that Forrest was siting on a bench at a busstoping point. A woman came and set down beside him, and he started talking to her and telling about his childhood. As a child he was retarted and had problems with his legs and back. So he had to go with legbracers. Forrest and his mother were living in a big house, which his mother has inherted. The house was extremely large, so his mother rented out some of the rooms. There were always many people coming and leaving. Once there was a very nice man with a guitar. Forrest liked his guitar and the sound of it, and stayed often with the man. He was standing in front of a mirror and dancing while the man played on his guitar. Later some day Forrest and his mother went by a shop with TV’s and that man was in tv, playing guitar, singing and dancing the steps that Forrest invented. People called that man a king; he died some years later though, because of a heart attack. It must be hard to be a king, Forrest thought. Forrest had also problems with his head, and was known as the local fool. His mother though wanted him to get an education, but his IQ was too low to get him in a “normal” school. His mother settled that out with the schools headmaster… So Forrest started going to school. On his first day, when he needed to take the school bus, he found himself a friend, a girl named Jenny. No one in the bus wanted to sit beside him, but she did. So they talked and became very close friends. But things had the way of going up and down for him al the time. So often when he went home after the school together with Jenny, he was getting chased by three other boys, who were trying to beat him and failed. Because a miracle happend – he tried to run and his bracers fell of, so he could actually run normally, exept that he ran extremely fast. One day Jenny didn’t come to school, and he visited her to find out what’s wrong. She said that he must be quiet, because her father was taking a nap. Her father was a very nice man, he thought. He was always touching and kissing Jenny and her other sisters… But Jenny didn’t seem to like it, so when her father started calling for her she took Forrest and they ran through the fields. Then they stopped and she started praying to God, so He would turn her into a bird and she could fly far away. But that didn’t happen… What did happen, was that police decided that Jenny didn’t have to live together with her father any more and she moved away to her grandmother. That made Forest even more happy, because that was even closer to him. Sometimes she sneaked out at night and came to him. Somehow she came up to his room, where she stayed for the night. Time went on, and Forrest and Jenny grew up and were teenagers. Forrest was still chased by the three boys, but they had a car instead of bycicles. Forrest ran again, and so he ran through a stadion where rugby was played. People saw how fast he was runing and of course Forrest got into a team. He was the fastest player… The rugby got him to college. The colleges leder was a man named Wallace who one day decided to let black people into the college. He was the first one in all the US doing that. Some time later Wallace decided to run for president. But someone didn’t agreed with Wallace and he got shot. He didn’t die, though. Forrest’s rugbyteam got to meet the president of United States, and so did Forrest of course. That was Kennedy. He got shot, too, though it was some time later. Then Forrest graduated and his college life was over. Then he joined the US Army and there he met his best friend ever, Bubba. Bubba came from a shrimp dynasty – his whole family, as well as his grandparents and so on were in the shrimp buiseness. Forrest did very well in the army, because all he had to do was obeying orders, which he was very good at. Then, he and Bubba were sent to Vietnam. Before that, he met Jenny once again because he found out that she was kicked out of her college because of her unpropriet clothing. When they came to Vietnam, they met lieutenant Dan, their overhead. With him, they went some long walks, all the time looking for someone named Charly. Once, it started raining and it did both day and night. Bubba asked Forrest about how would he like to go into shrimping buiseness with Bubba. He had it all calculated, they would catch so and so much shrimp, live in their boat so they wouldn’t have to pay rent and share evrything half-and-half. It was fine with Forrest, so they got a deal. One day, it suddenly stoped raining, as if someone had just turned rain off. As it happened, they were attacked by vietkong, many from the group died. Forrest was told to run away from there, so he did. But then he ran back, as he wanted to find Bubba. Instead, he found several other soldiers, including leutenant Dan, whom he saved. At last he found Bubba, but he was wanted and died later on by a river. His last words were “I wanna go home.” Forrest never forgot that. Then, he was sent to a hospital camp, as he got hit in the combat. Lieutenant Dan was there, too, he lost his legs… While Forrest was there, he also got all his letters to Jenny back, the adress was unknown… Forrest learned to play ping pong, too, and he was very good t it. So he was sent back to US, where he played ping pong in hospitals, where the soldiers wounded in the war could see him. And then, he was invited to the White House to get the Medal Of Honor, which he was awarded because of his courage in Vietnam. Then he played ping pong in China, which made him even more famous. Back in the US he was invited to a TV-Show to tell about his to China, where John Lennon was, too. Later on he wrote a song about that (Imagine)… He also met lieutenant Dan, in a wheelchair. Because of his ping pong skills, Forrest came up to the White House, again, and saw the president, again… The president got Forrest into a better hotel, and at night Forrest was awoken because of some people with flashlights in the bulding opposite to his hotel. So Forrest called the hotel service, which probably contacted the police and the Watergate scandal started. Then Forrest met an oficcer again, this time he was told that he was done serving the US Army and was free to go home, which Forrest did. At home he found out that very many people visited his mother because of his ping pong skills and fame. There was one offer, very attractive, he would get 25, 000 dollars if he would say that he used the offering company’s bat when he was playing ping pong in China. So he did, and after taking his mother out on a dinner, Forrest left again and went up to Bubba’s family in Bayou La Batre. There he used the rest of the money on a new shrimp boat and started sailing out, shrimping. It wasn’t much of a succes, though, and it didn’t change right away after lieutenant Dan came and said that he was a man of his word, and as he once has promiced Forrest, that if he would become a shrim boat captain, lieutenant Dan would become his first man, he did. So they started working together, and once, after God showed himself to leutenant Dan and there was a huge storm, all the other shrimp boats were damaged. So as Forrest and lieutenant Dan owned the last shrimp boat in the region, their buiseness started to go very well and it ended up in being a big and rich company. After the storm, lieutenant Dan finally made his peace with God, or so Forrest thought. He also, for the first time thanked Forrest for saving his life. One day, while fishing shrimp, Forrest fot a call from home and was told that his mother was ill. He jumped out of the boat, swimmed into the land and ran all the way home. His mother had cancer, and died while Forrest was visiteing her. So he stayed home, living in his mothers house. He donates a whole bunch of money to different organisations, like a church. As he never came back to lieutenant Dan, he got a letter from him, which said that he invested some of the money in a new “fruit company”, known as the Apple Computer. And, as Bubba was dead, he gave his share to Bubba’s mother. She never had to cook shrimp for someone again… And as he still (!) was very, very rich, and he enjoyed it, he was cutting the grass for free on his new job for free. Then, Jenny came and visited him. At one point he asked her to merry him, but she refused. She came up to him at night, though, and stayed there… But in the morning, she was gone again. Forrest then decided to go for a run. He reached his the end of his town, then his state and so he actually ran through all the United States. When he reached the ocean, he turned around and ran till he reached another ocean, and so on…. People started following him, and at last there was a whole bunch of people running after him, people believed it brought peace and hope. One day a man asked him for an advice for a slogan for his company. Suddenly he shouted out “Oh man, you just steped into a big shit!”. “It happens”, Forrest said. “What, shit?” Some years later Forrest heard of that man, he made a lot of money with his slogan “Shit happens “… Another man in trouble speaked to Forrest. A truck drove by and some dirt squized on to Forrest’s face. The man gave him a T-Shirt to take the dirt of the face with, the T-Shirts were worthless… A smiling face was on the T-Shirt after that, so the man came up with idea of smilies which became extremely popular and were used on everything. Then, after three years, two months, fourteen days and sixteen hours, he suddenl stoped. “I am tired. I think, I’m going to go home now”, he said. So he did. His followers were totally lost and didn’t know what to do… When he came home, he received a letter from Jenny in which she asked him to come and visit him in Savannah. She saw him running on TV, it was in all media, of course… And that is where we saw him all the time, sitting and waiting for a bus. But the older woman that was sitting beside of him and listening told him that the adress, Jenny had, was to reach by walking. He ran all the way to Jenny and finally, they met again… Jenny showed him a little boy named Forrest after his father… All three of them moved in at Forrests place and Forrest and Jenny finally got married. At the wedding a very special guest showed up – lieutenant Dan with his fiancé and new titanium legs. At last, he found his happiness, too. But unfortunately Jenny died short time later, she had AIDS and it was totally new at that point. After her death he bulldozed her fathers house… So Forrest was alone again, though he still had his son. Forrest Jr. was very smart, one of the smartest in his class, so he didn’t had his fathers problems. He started at school again, the film ended with him driving away in the schoolbus and a feather flying around in air…
