Aboriginals

Aboriginal history

There is no agreement about when the Aboriginals came to Australia. Carbon 14 tests have shown that the Aboriginals came at least 30.000 years ago, but new test results suggest that the Aboriginals may have immigrated to Australia as long as 176.000 years before our time. The Aboriginals originally came from South East Asia; they row from Papua New Guinea. Researchers presume that the Aboriginals are Homo sapiens, but the bones that have been found in Australia from the time period are very different, so it is possible that there have been groups of other human races immigrating to Australia.

The Aboriginals do not have a written language; therefore there are no history books about their historical evolution, but only the stories which have been told from generation to generation. The historians disagree about the number of indigenous people before the European’s arrival, and the numbers vary from 100,000 to 600,000, as the number of tribes varies from 100 to 600.

Before the Europeans arrived in 1788, the Aboriginals had lived undisturbed for thousands of years. When these white men came to the island several thousand natives suddenly died of unknown diseases. It is not strange that this was seen as obvious signs of evilness and that the Aboriginals came to distrust the Europeans. Although the Europeans had strict orders to create understanding and trust among the Aboriginals, there was a widespread lack of understanding of the indigenous culture and lifestyles.
