Well you can clearly see in the novel that the parents are very different, even though Kevin and Doc’s parents aren’t that different. They aren’t that different because they both take good care of their sons. When Kevin is visiting Doc at the hospital he sees that Doc’s parents are just as “embarrassing” as his own. Both of the parents are very caring for their kids. As mentioned in the book several of times, don’t Kevin’s dad want his kids to be in any kinds of gangs. The moms seem good, like most mothers they love their children very much. Salom’s mom loves her son too. But the problem is that she loves him to much. That can be very frustrating fore a teenager. She really cares about him, and when she hears that Kevin an him is fighting in the book she comes right through the door and stand up for him. And meantime he got a dad who hates him very, very much. He don’t show any kind of love to him, just threaten him with beating him, and probably has done it sometimes. And if it wasn’t enough, he got a drinking problem too. So Salom has a lot to deal with. With to much and too little love and an alcoholic dad who beats him up. You don’t hear about Doc’s father. So there aren’t not much too tell.
