Ireland has been through a lot of different conflicts over the years, and The Battle of the Boyne is only one of those.
In 1170, the first British settlers came to Ireland. They were Catholics. In many years Ireland was a peaceful country, but then in the mid 1520’s the king of England named Henry 8th fell in love with a lady named Ann Boleyn, and he wanted to get a divorce from his then wife named Catherine of Aragon, but the pope did not want to annul his marriage. After the refusal, king Henry decided to become Protestant and in that way get divorced and get the love of his life. In that way, the English became Protestants, but the Irish remained Catholics. In the beginning of the 16th century the English went to a northern region of Ireland called Ulster and started to introduce the Protestantism to the Irish.
The Catholics of Ireland became very angry and did not like the Protestantism at all, which led to a big war towards the ending of the 16th century called The Battle of the Boyne, where an army led by the Catholic king of England, Scotland and Ireland named James 2nd attacked the Protestants in Northern Ireland, who were leaden by the Protestant king of England, Scotland and Ireland named William 3rd of Orange. The Protestants won after 12 days of war and stayed in Northern Ireland, where they are still to find today.
