“In the name of the father” is the title of the movie. I really can’t give a good reason why, maybe it is based on the ending of the movie where Gary want to get justice of his father’s death in present.
Gary is living a wild life in Guildford – Ireland, and his father is sending him to London to live with his aunt and to get a good job.
While he is in London, a small time thief from Belfast, Gerry, is falsely implicated in the IRA bombing of a pub that kills several people.
Gerry admits that he was in London at the time of the incident. He also admits that he is not a model citizen, having committed a petty robbery while in London. He does however profess his innocence when it comes to the bombing of the Guildford Pub in London in 1974.
Gerry and his friends get to cord and they get 30 years present.
While they are sitting in jail they start a project with a lawyer to prove their innocent. In almost the end of the movie while Gary and the other has been in present for fifteen years, the lawyer finally finds the evidence.
