Eton is a famous school and was founded in 1440 by King Henry VI. Today it is a secondary school for approximately 1,290 boys between the ages of 13 and 18. There are 25 boarding houses, each providing a home to about 50 boys. Each boy has a Tutor, and he sees him each week. The Tutors task will be to expand the boy’s intellectual and cultural horizons and to provide him with personal and academic support. Eton is about 20 miles west of central London, on the River Thames near Windsor.
The day on Eton start at 7.30 every weekday (8.30 on Sundays). The boys have time to wash and dress before Breakfast. After Breakfast the boys have about twenty minutes before Chapel at 8.40 (10.40 on Sundays). They can use the twenty minutes to make their bed and tidy up their room, to see if they have any letters or email, to see their House Master or Dame if necessary. From 9 o’clock till 13:25 there are lessons. At 13:25 there is Dinner and after that, depends much of what day of the week it is. Every day, Supper is at about 7.40 followed by House Prayers at about 8.20. Between House Prayers and Lights Out (at 9.30 in most Houses) they have time to finish off their ‘prep’ for the following day, to have a bath, and to tidy up their room.
