Wolves Jamie: A Boy's Wish to Be Black

Jamie was a little boy of 10 years old when he was thrown out of home. His parents threw him out from home, because he wanted to be black. Jamie has since he was 5 years old liked to be black. When he was hospitalized he surrounded by black people. The black people around him at the hospital were very sweet to him. Jamie’s parents came with gifts and balloons to him. But the black people didn’t come with gifts or balloons to their kids. So Jamie feels sorry for their black people because they didn’t got gifts or balloons. Then Jamie got the gift and balloons to their black kids. Since the incident at the hospital, Jamie had been considered to be black. So it was his own choice and therefore he would like to be black. So he had a group of black people as friends. Therefore they decided to make a group called “The Wolves”.

His friend Leon asked him several times why he would be black. They wanted to say that black people should be white and not reverse. Jamie’s answer was: “Oh. Well, I s’pose I’ve always felt that’ way… But if you want to get real technical ‘bout it, s’pose it started when I was four or five. I got real sick and had to go to the hospital. I shared a room with black dude, ‘bout my age. And then I decided I really wanted to be black. Leon smiled. “Naw. That’s totally cool.”
