St. Patrick brought traditional celtic symbols, like bonfire and the sun, into the christian teachings. St. Patrick died on March 17, 461. St. Patricks day is the saints least day and has involved from a religious holiday to a world wide celebreation.

In 1997 the St. Patrick's Day became a three days festival and in 2000 a four day festival. In 2006 the St. Patrick's day was five days long. More than 675,000 people was to the parade in 2009. The biggest celebrations outside Dublin are in Downpatrick, County down.
