Constructions and perception of life changes through generations. Changes are inevitable. We no longer have limited opportunities and our dreams grow bigger every day. New generations push limits further and there are no longer wondering people around you if you want to reach an earlier unattainable goal in life. Success is for many people the most important thing. It could be success at the labor market, in the family, in the sport world, or in love. It could be many things but everybody wants to be successful more or less. The harder it is to achieve the success, the more pain it costs you, the more it matters to you, the more success you will feel in the end. That means, you should be willing to give up a lot of things. Some parents use much time at work. Maybe too much, in order to be successful. This causes sacrifices and they neglect their children. The children have to be alone most of the time and do not get the attention they really need in everyday life. They can do whatever they want and the grownups think they are doing good, but maybe something is missing to complete their weekday and personality. The parents are not able to give them enough love and to compensate for that they give them money and presents instead. This is exactly what is happening for the youth in the short story “Twelve”.
