This assignment focuses on the key elements of production, trade, and the distribution of power, in the old kingdom of Egypt.
The king was an absolute monarch, in a hierarchy, where the distribution of power, was made according to a person’s own level of education. This created a very important need of mathematical skills, applied for trade, taxes and the construction of buildings.
In the mathematical section of this assignment, the primary focus is on how the Egyptian methods of calculation where applied. The exercise includes a description telling about division, addition, unit-fractions and the 2/n-method.
Regarding additions, there have been made a description of the ”assisting numbers”, which were applied by the Egyptians when they added fractions with different denominators. After this section, a description of pesu-tasks follows. This is how the Egyptians calculated the concentration of grain, in both beer and bread.
