The speech is spoken by Paul Ryan. He is speaking at the Republican National Convention in august 2012. He addresses what Obama did wrong and who the next president and vice-president should be, according to Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. It stands between Mitt Romney and his vice-president Paul Ryan, who represent the republicans, and Obama and his vice-president Joe Biden, who represent the democrats. The topic that he speaks of is what Obama did wrong and what Mitt and he will change. Obama promised a lot but in the 4 years that has passed nothing has happened, Mitt and Paul wants to change that attitude and complete the promises they make. Obama was elected at the beginning of an economic crisis and according to Mitt and Paul he just made it worse; now 23 million people cannot find a job. The purpose of the speech is to get more votes. Since the speech is being held for other republicans, it also strengthens the bond between Mitt & Paul and the audience, the republicans.

The speaker, Paul Ryan is talking to an audience of his own beliefs, therefor the audience respect him and will give him larger applauses. This will encourage Paul Ryan to give an even better speech. If the audience had been democrats, it would be a whole other story especially when he talks bad about Obama “… They’ve run out of ideas. Their moment came and went. … the president is just throwing away money – and he’s pretty experienced at that” (l. 10, 13). His tone is friendly and his language sophisticated, it gives the impression that Paul Ryan is focusing on a better country and not only money and power. In the beginning of his speech he talks about his family as a normal family, therefor Paul is like his voters, a simple citizen wanting a better country, “My Dad, a small-town lawyer, was also named Paul. …” (l. 16, 21). Paul starts talking about how Obama should have never made Obamacare, which was pumping money from Medicare, Paul then provides a story about his grandmother to give a clear example of how well Medicare works “My wonderful grandma, Janet, had Alzheimer’s and moved in with Mom and me. … We had help from Medicare, and it was there, just like it’s there for my Mom today. ” (l. 69, 74).
