When Ryan was 15 years old, he had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get his life under control. He came from one of the country's roughest council estates to an expensive public school, and now the second chance series had allowed him to get himself together at school and become something. But he didn't grab it and instead of getting something out of his unique opportunity, he was thrown out for drunken behavior.
Now Ryan is seven years behind with his baby daughter (Mia) at 14 months and has big plans for her future. He cares a lot that she shouldn't make the same mistake he did when he was young. Therefore, he already plans for her to go to public boarding school just like himself. He takes her to the library almost every day to read so her language gets better. His daughter has given him more will than before and motivated him so much that he is in the process of taking an education now. “I'm willing to work hard and do whatever it takes. I would still like to find work in a production company.” He said.
The reason he is so enamored in Mia's school and future is because he was raised alone by his mother when his father had left her before he knew about the pregnancy. His mother was a chef and didn't have much to do well with. They lived in a poor neighborhood and it was a harsh environment that helped to have a bad effect on Ryan. He was with the wrong types and crime became part of his life at an early age. Ryan was angry with the world and the fact that the school had given up on him didn't make it any better. He has felt indifferent, unwanted, and inept from the beginning of his life because his father left him and his mother. Before Ryan had the opportunity to attend boarding school, the headteacher sent complaints to his mother three times a week. He was described as a rude and unwieldy boy.
