Abstract
This paper wi ll explain bipolarity as an international power distribution between two superpowers, and also explain inner and outer bipolarity with a focus upon USA, including an overview of events which could alter the balance of power between the USA and the USSR from 1950 to the Cuban missile crisis in 1962. The paper will also perform a rhetorical analyze of the speeches by both Joseph McCarthy and John F. Kennedy. Lastly this paper will examine Kennedy’s role in solving the Cuban missile crisis, while also speculating on other outcomes if Kennedy had chosen one of the other possible solutions to the crisis.

Indledning
Efter Tysklands nederlag i 1945 blev forholdet mellem USA og Sovjetunion køligere, grænser blev lukket og verden blev delt mellem verdens to mægtigste nationer. Nu begyndte et magtspil mellem USA og Sovjetunionen, der ville fortsætte et halvt århundrede, og truslen fra en altødelæggende atomkrig truede nu verden. Denne kolde krig havde dog flere varme punkter, disse øjeblikke var kritiske for den internationale fredsbalance.
