Charles and Leroy: Friendship and Betrayal

Remember me?The year 1875, two young boys met, at the shoreline at Mississippi river. They didn't know each other and weren't very comparable. Their names were Charles and Leroy. Charles was from a supreme and high class family. His father was a owner of a big cotton plantation. Charles was the only child in the whole family. He was so tired of all the fancy clothes and shoes, all the superior behavior and the fine talking. And every Sunday he even had to go to church. One day he sat and looked out of his window and saw all the Negroes. They worked in the plantation. Some of them worked in the house too. Charles was so sorry for them. And didn't want to be like his father and mother. He didn't want to live on this plantation his whole life. So then he packed his case, said goodbye to the Negroes, and went out his window. He ran down the rally and ended at the riverside. Leroy wasn't high-class at all. His father was half black American and, half Spanish and worked down at the shoe factory. Every day he came home with only enough money to pay the daily food, and rent of the house they lived in. His mother died in the civil war in 1861 to 1865. Leroy was only two years old when his mother died. His father was a man of few words and wasn't very close to Leroy. Actually his dad spent the most of his time and the local pub. So Leroy was often by his own. One day Leroy sat and looked out of his window. He saw all the rich and upper-class citizens and thought it was a shame that he, and his father didn't had so many money. He didn't want to live in this dirty house his whole life. So he decided to find some of the money in the world. He packed his case, and went out of the window. He ran down the streets and ended at the riverside. Surprisingly there stood another boy in the shore and looked out in the water. He had some fancy clothes and fine shoes. He went over to the other boy and asked for his name. “My name is Charles, Charles McNielson”, he answered. Charles took his hand up and expected a handshake. But Leroy just stood and looked at him. “My name is Leroy Pattingson”. They looked both at each other with a friendly smile. Suddenly they began to walk down the shore. Charles began to tell about the Negroes in his plantation and Leroy started to tell about his father and mother. And from that moment they were best friends. -
