Fred had sent a letter and a present, congratulating Niels, and telling him that he wanted to learn some more about a danish confirmation.
So Niels replies back telling him that it is not the same in all danish families, but he could tell about his confirmation.
Niels tells him that a typical confirmation took place in spring, usually early in April or early in May.
He tells Fred all about how they prepared a really long time before the confirmation, how they at school have had two lessons a week with a vikar. He thought it was quite interesting and even funny sometimes. They learned about Jesus, the Bible and that kind of thing, because they have to know most of what’s going on in the church, before they can get confirmed. So at the ceremony they got asked questions about the bible in front of the congregation. And he was all nervous, because the vicar told them, that they couldn’t get confirmed unless they knew all the answers, and he hasn’t been listening carefully in all lessons. But he managed all right.
There was other preparations before the confirmation. They wanted to hold the party at a hotel, but the hotel was already booked, so they held it at home. And there was also all the shopping. Niels hated shopping, but he had to shop till his mom was satisfied.
