I have chosen this topic, because I find it very interesting whether the question of the death penalty really is a thing we need in 2013. I have chosen the death penalty because I think that it is a very exciting topic, and I have previously written an essay about it in English.
Do people deserve to die because of what some believe, or are we all equal in the society, no matter what we have done? These kinds of questions among lots of others have given me the foundation to choose this topic. Is it necessary to have death penalty in the US, and in that case, should we also establish the death penalty in Denmark.

In America they still have the death penalty because it has become more of a tradition which can be traced back to a time where cowboys were dominant in the USA. Since such a thing as the police didn’t exist and there was no form of punishment in the form of prison which would have deterred criminals from committing crimes, the death penalty was seen as the easiest way of protecting the nation. Furthermore, since America is a predominantly Christian country, it is against any sort of crime which could threaten the lives of other citizens so they believe that when they are shooting people dead through the death penalty that they are doing it in the name of God.
