I think that almost all people in the world know, that they have been recorded on a security camera once, and they probably also know, that there are cameras in many stores and on the streets. But I do not think, that people realize, how often a camera are recording you. In Britain, there are estimated four million cameras. Most of them are CCTV cameras, which can be configured to use face-recognition, and look for criminal suspects. I find that cool, and useful. I mean, that sounds like an easy way to catch criminals. There are probably some that find it uncomfortable, the thought of being watch 300 times a day. I understand those people, and the thought is a little scary, but I think it is necessary to have cameras like CCTV, at least on the streets, in stores, on public transport and in cash machines.
Some cameras are hidden, so people do not know that they are being watched. I cannot see how hidden cameras are a good thing to have, unless you are spying on someone. I think people behave better, when they know someone are watching, which a visible camera could help with. It is the same thing in a classroom, when the teacher is looking “everybody” are behaving, and the second the teacher is looking the other way, bad behavior happens. A CCTV camera could be that teacher who are watching the classol, because it is very visible, then again, they are a good thing to have.
