Helicopter parenting and its effect on honesty

Obsessive moms raise the best liars. Where are you? Who are you with? When are you coming home? How are you coming home?

We all know that feeling, when we are somewhere, out of our mother’s reach and all they do is calling and texting, because they want to know when, how, where and who.

Personally, I have the most amazing mom. She, of course, wants to know where I am and with who, but that is it. Sometimes, she also wants to know when I get home or if I am eating dinner at home.

However, when I am partying with my friends or in the town, she gives me a long leash. She does not ask when I am coming home, unless she is the one picking me up. As long as I am capable of participating in the next day’s activities and as long as I am not waking up the entire house.

That results in me confiding in her and telling her personal things. My mom is not a helicopter mom, which is why I am very independent. She does not control or monitor me, which makes me trust her more, because she does not snoop around in my stuff.
