Abstract

In a time where the American traditional society had economic and industrial prosperity, the citizens considered themselves as a part of the middleclass. A group of young writers had an idea of a society based on constant movement. This group of young people was called the beat-generation. The beats protested against the patterns and norms in the traditional society. They travelled across the American continent to find a deeper meaning with the presence of life. Their lives contains sexual and spiritual experiments and drug use. The beat-writers’ expressed themselves by writing books or poetry, which was words that choked the society. The beat-generation has somehow an influence on the youth revolution in 1960. Concepts as beatniks and hippies shared the same lifestyle as the beat-generation, and therefore there is a connection between the two.
