In this text there is one theme who dominates in both text, and that is hope. We will see that hope has a big influence in both stories, but in two different ways. These themes are holding the common thread together. Every little act has a big influence on the stories course, and that will have an interconnected connection in the comparison between the two stories.

If you compare these two texts, you see a lot of differences. For example the mood, the mood in On The Road is a lot better than in The Road. Because the characters in On the Road are having fun, drinking and talking together, they are having a nice trip, and the mood in The Road is just bad. Everything in this story is sad, sadness are controlling the story. There is no life to be seen, sadness has placed itself around every corner. There are no people left apart from the father and the son, which there is in On The Road. That tells something about hope.

From my point of view, there is not any kind of hope left in The Road. Everything is ruined, they have nothing to supply themselves with. The only hope they possibly can have, is the one inside their heads. That is only my point of view, but if we look into the text close to the end, the boy asks his father ‘’are we going to die’’, and the dad’s answer is ‘’sometime. Not now’’. This tells us, that the father still has hope. However there is lots of hope in On The Road, because they have each other, and they are having fun together, so everything is fine.
