Apartheid is an Africans word that means separateness. It started in 1948 and dominated Southafrica in nearly 50 years. The apartheid dint just come out of the blue air. The black people saw their country as a gift from god, so they protected it with all they had. The withes endet up seeing the blacks as a thread and that’s where the apartheid started. With the apartheid followed 148 rules that were given to the blacks. They had to carry ID at all time and couldn’t go outside their home at night or early morning. There were places like banks hospitals shops and churches were the blacks weren’t allowed to go to. A black and a white couldn’t get married and these are just a few examples.
People were classified in to four groups. Whites, blacks, colored and Indians. They were all divided in to separated in to different areas. The blacks were divided in to 10 so called homelands, based on tribal groups. The Homelands were overcrowded, dirty, dangerous and lacked jobs. So the blacks were forced to work as migrated workers which mean that they travel a long way to work. Wages were low and it was illegal for them to strike.
