Losing a beloved one can be extremely painful and for most of us it can be difficult to overcome. But on the other hand we like to forget and overcome the pain of the loss. We try our best to remember them, and sometimes we fall in doing both. Unfortunately, that is when it is most painful. Sometimes, the loss of beloved ones can be so painful that we might think we see then and talk to then even though they are not alive. We may even convince ourselves that they maybe still alive and a part of our daily lives. This is the kind of situation the main character is dealing with in Bernie McGill´s short story “No Angel” from 2011.

The short story is told in a first person narrative with a limited point of view. The narrator is explicit by taking part in the story as the main character. We see the events happening though the main character´s eyes, which give us detailed information about her thoughts and feelings, the first person narrator can be very unreliable, because we only see things form one perspective. Another disadvantage about the narrative is that the field of observation is limited, and it makes it very difficult for the main character to be aware of all the important events.
