The Princess Bride was pretty interesting, because it could confuse some people, whether it’s fantasy or a fairy tale. The movie has a few aspects from fantasy, but it doesn’t have enough to make it fantasy. Its starts by showing you a boy who is sick. He is being babysat by his grandfather. The grandfather decides to read a book for the boy.
The story starts with a poor girl, named Buttercup and her farm boy Westley who does whatever she pleases. He only answers with as you wish. Time goes by and Buttercup starts to realize that every time the boy says as you wish he actually mean I love you.
After being together for some time Westley disappears, and Buttercup is told that he was on a ship, that the evil pirate King Roberts pillaged. After that moment her life was ruined. The she get married to a prince that she doesn’t love. From the start it already seems like a fairy tale, and not a fantasy movie.
One of the only fantasy elements that I see, is the miracle pill. The pill can get Westley back to life, after he has been tortured to death. There is some sword fighting, but fantasy is not only sword fighting it also requires some magic, but just because there is magic in it doesn’t make it fantasy either, but it gets closer.
