Ideals of Beauty

There is a saying "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder". What one individual considers beautiful may not be beautiful to another. To me, beauty is not only something that only pleases the eyes, but also the other senses and the mind. I think true love makes you see beyond just the outward appearance. But not everyone has this view on beauty. When we talk about beautiful people, we often refer to their physical attractiveness. Of course a beautiful or handsome face is pleasant to look at, but who decide what beauty is? Sometimes I see a person, and think “Damn, looking good” but what is exactly beautiful about this person? I can’t always tell... Maybe he’s looking like a movie star, or maybe he’s looking like a photomodel. In many ways the media both affects and decides which people who are beautiful and who aren't, and I think that is a shame. I think every person in the world is unique, and have there own beauty. No matter what, there will always be something beautiful in every single person. Especially when we talk about inner beauty. Even around me I know some people who aren't necessarily the most attractive person in the world, but they are always ready to lend a hand to a person in need. I greatly admire the beauty of these people, because they are the ones who make the world a better place. I have noticed that their kindness and way of looking at life, definitely have an influence on their outer beauty. But even though, we cannot get round that our outward appearance matters. I think a lot of young people, wouldn’t even get involved with a conceivable partner, if the person was ugly. They wouldn't even talk to them in the first place, and therefore never discover their beauty. If I just think of myself, I don't think I would turn to a guy if he was ugly, and I know for a fact, that I’m not alone on this matter... It is something that we automatically do. Not because we want to be mean, or cruel, but it’s just in our nature. We are lucky then, that ugly to me, is beautiful to another person, and the other way around. That is the beauty of being a human - there is always hope… even for me.
