This year I decided to volunteer at the homeless shelter again, since last year was very cozy, and lots of fun, in addition to that, I love cooking, and the people there are such good company.
I woke up this morning to the sound of Nate and Jason running around the house, and marching up and down the stairs in excitement, reassuring me that today was in fact Christmas Day. I did not have quite the same level of enthusiasm, but I was excited nonetheless. When I was younger, Christmas was about opening presents, and eating gingerbread men. If you told me back then, that Christmas was about giving and sharing the Christmas spirit and what not, I would have laughed in your face, but the past few years, I have started putting my selfishness aside, and this was my second year helping at the Federal Highway homeless shelter.
I hobbled down the stairs after my over-excited younger brothers had rudely interrupted my slumber, and ate some food. As per tradition, my mom had made some rad gingerbread waffles. After devouring those, I had about 2 hours to kill, before going to the homeless shelter, just enough time to play the mandatory, annual game of Ludo with my family, which incidentally, I won. I met up with Josh at the end of my road, and we went there together. We arrived at the homeless shelter and greeted the other workers. Ryan and Kate were helping again this year; luckily, they did not mess up the gravy this year. Josh and I were going to be preparing the turkey, potatoes and the pecan pie. Neither of us really wanted to peel potatoes, so we played an intense match of rock, paper, scissors, which I lost, and thus became the potato peeler.
