Rosa Louise was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, on February 4, 1913. She moved with her parents, James and Leona, to Pine Level, Alabama, at age 2. Her brother, Sylvester, was born in 1915, and shortly after that her parents separated. Rosa’s mother was a teacher, and the family valued education. Rosa moved to Montgomery, Alabama, at age 11 and started at high school there, a laboratory school at the Alabama State Teachers’ College for Negroes. She left at 16, in 11th grade, because she needed to take care for her dying grandmother
As a child Rosa parks became aware of the segregation and she experienced a lot of racism and became aware of the different opportunities faced by white and black children.
In 1932 she married Raymond Parks. He was active in the NAACP and Rosa Parks became a supporter helping with fund-raising.

Rosa Parks is known today as “the mother of civil rights” On December 1. 1955 Rosa parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white man.
Back then there was a big difference between black people and white people. Colored people were treated as if they were nothing while white people were treated if they were kings and queens. Colored people weren't allowed to be in the same places as white people and they had to give their seat up for a white people.
