She was a black woman, that sat on a white man’s chair in a bus, 1955. She was a seamstress before she became secretary for the Montgomery chapter of NAACP. Rosa was born in Alabama, 1913. She moved with her parents, James and Leona McCauley. Her brother was Sylvester, was born in 1915, and shortly after her parents separated. Her mother was a teacher because her family valued education. When Rosa was 19 years old, she married Raymond Parks, a self-educated man who was also a long-time member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

When was she arrested and why?

Rosa Parks was arrested on Thursday, December 1, 1955, as a 42-year-old. She was arrested because she wouldn’t give up her “white” seat to a white man, so the white man called the police and eventually two police officers approached the stopped bus, and placed Parks in custody.

What is a boycott?

Boycott means to stop buying stuff or using the services of a certain company. Or refuse to cooperate with or participate in for example an event or politics.

Why was the boycott effective?

The boycott was affective because more people boycotted it, than what they expected. And because of the boycott, a lot of white people got angry and violent, even going as far as bombing the houses of Martin Luther King and Edgar Daniel Nixon, and that got the attention of the world.
