Once upon a time, a man was lying on a brickwall near the centrum of London. This man was very lonely. He didn’t have any friends or family. Actually, the only things he owned, was an umbrella and a little briefcase. His briefcase contained an empty wallet, an unused cigarette and a diary. Despite this man was lonely, he was happy. He thought of himself as a happy man. He had everything he needed to live a happy life, so why buy more. He had his umbrella which he used when London had rainy and foggy days. He had his empty, but expensive leatherwallet which he brought small changes in, if he was lucky to find any. He also had his cigarette. Even though he never lighted it, he used it a lot. Last but not least he had his old blue diary. People may say that diaries is old-fashioned and for girls, but the man didn’t care about others opinion. He wrote in his dairy, whenever he wanted to, and that was literally every day. He wrote all of his experiences and thoughts about London, people and life down in his little diary. Once he wrote down this: “Today has been an odd day. I’ve been lying on this brickwall all day. I don’t know where the idea came from, but it is strangely enough very interesting. I just lay there looking into the deep and grey sky. I listen to all the noise from a hundred people’s voices, and the noise from cars driving in and out of London. I smell the gas from all these cars, but the air still seems so fresh, actually too fresh. People must think I am weird. When they pass by me, they look at me with such a weird look on their faces. I kind of understand them. I mean; I am weird. A women went past me with her little daughter in a black pushchair. The girl, who I guess was about 5 years old, asked her mother, why I was lying on a wall. The mother said, “he is homeless, don’t touch him”. Why can’t people lay on a wall without getting called homeless? Well, I know that I am homeless, but I really don’t look homeless. At least that is what I say to myself. Is it really that weird to lay on a wall on the street. I thought a lot about what the mother told her kid. Maybe she was right. I probably should try to act more normal. I think I have to get a job, buy an apartment and be kind to the people on the streets every day. When I saw the sky getting darker and darker, I took my umbrella and my briefcase, and then I left my lovely wall. Now is time for a change.” When the man walked away from the wall, he went past a dustbin. He stopped and thought. Then he took his diary from his briefcase and through it in to the dustbin. He shed a little tear. That stupid book meant after all a lot to him, and a lot of good memories was saved in it. Words: 539
