Analyse af 'Pool' af Corey Campbell

In the world we live in, society expects us to go to school, get an education, find a partner, get married, find a job, get old and die. But what if we don’t want to go to school or get married. What if we just aren’t ready for one of those steps. In Corey Campbell’s short story, ‘Pool’, from 2009, we meet a young lady by the name of Darla, who is in a confusing period.

The story is written in a third-person limited narrator, in Darla’s perspective. The reader is informed about what she thinks, feels, experiences, but not what other people in the story experience or think. The setting of the story takes place at the house of Mandy and Trevor, in The Valley. The area is described as a place where car thieves reside and where young people in their twenties settle down for their first time. ‘’The couple had set up house in the Valley, in a neighborhood of small square houses, many guarded by iron fences, the homes of car thieves and newlyweds in their twenties still renting. ‘’ (Lines 5-6) The description of the house is how Darla describes everything, as is influenced by how she feels, giving off a not so positive vibe.
