How can your color on your skin create so much hate? And why do some people hate each other so much just because they aren’t the same race as them? In my essay I’m going to write about how the two leaders (Julius Campbell & Gerry Bertier) relationship changes. First I’m going to write about how their relationship is in the beginning of the movie, and what problem it causes. Then I’m going to write about how their relationship is getting better, and how the team slowly is beginning to work well together. In the end I’m going to write about how much their relationship, has change. The idea of blacks & whites in the same team isn’t so popular. When the white team finds out that coach Yoast has been replaced by coach Bone, they become very angry, and playing with some black players doesn’t make it better. The two leaders: Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell can barely look at each other, without discussing something. There is only one of the players who don’t care about skin color, and it’s Louie Lastik. When he sits with the black players, Julius asks him why he doesn’t eat with his people. Then he answer “I don’t have any people, I’m with everyone. In almost every game they play, a problem arises. For example: After the first game in the camp, they all went to get some water. Then one of the white players pushed a black player... And then they all began to push each other, and it became a fight. Coach Bone were tired of how the boys treated each other so he said to them, that they all have to meet with one from the opposite team, and get to know them, and it will not stop until all black player and all white players got to meet each other. Still after that the team hasn’t learn to treat each other well. In another game, Bertier says to one of the white player to block for Petey who is one of the black players. After that Bertier and Campbell got in to an argument. Gerry says to Julius that he only cares for himself, and that’s he have the worst attitude he ever heard. Then Julius answers him by saying “Attitude reflects leadership Captain” Then coach Bone take the boys to a cemetery. He tells them about all the people that died here, and that they all fight the same fight. “The fight amongst them self” He tells them that hate destroyed his family and that they need to come together, or they will also get destroyed. Then the next game we’ve got to see that the team slowly is getting to get well among each other. We can see that, when Julius and Gerry start to shout “left side” “strong side”. The team is also beginning to have fun together, they tell jokes, and laugh. They are also sitting beside each other in the cafeteria. Their games are also beginning to show progress. When they came back to school they are still together, even though the white mothers are against the white and black team. Their friends were also shocked over how they were so good friends. Later after they have won a game they went out to celebrate it. Gerry’s girlfriend Emma asked him if he want to go with them, but Gerry said to them, why they don’t stay here with him, and his teammates, and then Emma and her friends drove away. Blue, Petey and Sunshine went to a restaurant but got kick out because they were not going to let them in because of the black players. Petey told Sunshine they wouldn’t let them in and then he got mad on Sunshine because he knew that they wouldn’t come in. Then Louie and Blue call the team into a meeting so they could come together again. In the next game they were very happy, they performed a dance. After that day the team kept on winning every game. The teams’ relationship had an effect on the school and the community. While celebrating the winning game Gerry got hit by truck. He couldn't even walk. The team rushed to the hospital. When Julius came to the hospital, Gerry’s mom told him that Gerry only wants to see him. In there Julius and Gerry become real brothers. Gerry could no longer play in the team, but he still supported the team. The team played the last game very well, and won the Championship. The two leader’s relationship has change so much. They went from enemies to brothers. 10 years later after they won the championship Gerry died. He died in another car accident. The coaches and the teammate come to Gerry’s funeral to show respect. The team starts to sing their favorite song "Ain’t No Mountain High Enough". The team was a symbol for the school. They showed Virginia that a white and black team certainly can work well together. The team learned to show respect and to trust each other, especially Gerry and Julius. At Gerry’s funeral Sheryl, retold the message of equality between races taught by the Titans. The team success symbolized their pride. Now the local school boards are beginning to include black people in their high school. The Titans is a great example of how people learn to live and respect each other even if they aren’t the same race as them.
