Abraham Lincoln Marriage and children: Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of The United States from March 1861 until April 1865. He was born Hodgenville, Kentucky and grew up in the western frontier in Kentucky and Indiana. His father’s name was Thomas Lincoln and his mother’s name was Nancy Hanks. His mother died when he was 9 years old, it deeply affected him. One year over his mother’s death his dad married to Sarah Bush Johnston a Kentucky widow with three children of her own. Lincolns first interest was Ann Rutledge, he met her when he moved to New Salem.
