I would say the operation “The evacuation of the British army” was a big success. Because the goal was to get 30.000 soldiers, but it ended with a big surprise. Instead of 30.000 men, it was 300.000 men who where evacuated to England.
Since it was a success for the Germanys to attack, and push back the British, and the French forces back to Dunkirk, then surround the forces, it shows that the German has well proven tactics with the use of tanks and arrow planes. Still today many people wonder why the Germans stopped the attack, and gave grace to the enemy forces, so they could evacuate.
The British were aware of what the next step would be. That England would be attacked, by the Germans. So they made Dunkirk a heroic event so they kept a good morale and when they should fight the Germans. they would be proud of themselves.
A true WW2 Story
With the movie “Dunkirk” the instructor Christopher Nolan has succeeded in creating a master piece, that describes how the evacuating from Dunkirk took place. The hole evacuation is described, by telling many small stories, that are combined with each other.
We follow the young solider, who is isolated from his unit and still want to go back to England. We also follow the sailor, who sails out to help evacuate the troops from Dunkirk. There is the pilot, who choose to scarifies himself to save many troops.
