Hello, I’ve chosen to talk about the discovery of USA, because it was a meaningful occurrence, which I unfortunately didn’t know much about. So I thought it was a good opportunity to learn more about Christopher Columbus and his trip across the Atlantic back in 1492.
Christopher, or in Italian; Christoforo, was his entire life silent about when and where he was born, but it is quite sure that he was born in the Italian harbor city Genoa in year 1451. Back in Columbus’ days, Genoa was an important harbor city, with tons of sailors. Besides from spices, silk and precious dyes, the sailors also brought with them some interesting stories about faraway countries and gave the young Columbus a dream about sailing to faraway countries himself.
At the age of fourteen he was out sea for the first time – and it was absolutely not going to be his last! At the beginning of this sailor career, it was mostly small ships sailing from harbor to harbor in North Italy, but with time the trips went further, and Columbus learned a lot about ships. Back then, there were no such thing as google, and no one knew for sure how the world looked. I guess you can say everyone had their own ideas. Most people believed that the earth was flat, and that if you sailed far enough, you would end sailing over the edge. There were tons of undiscovered land and stories about newly discovered land. Throughout the years, Columbus meet a lot of people, heard a lot of stories and created his own idea of the world. He was one of the few people to believe that the world was round.
