Arnold Schwarzenegger’s speech at the 2004 RNC was clearly of a persuasive intent, uplifting the current president, George W. Bush. His rhetorical ambitions throughout the speech concerns the encouragement to vote for Bush in the 2004 Presidential election. The main arguments of his speech are immigration and the American Dream, which is described as the belief that everyone should have an equal opportunity to achieve success regardless of birth or social class. To illustrate the topic of immigration and the opportunity to live the American Dream, Schwarzenegger uses his own story:

In 2004, Arnold Schwarzenegger gave a famous speech, to get Americans to vote for George W. Bush, to run as president of the United States for another four years. Arnold Schwarzenegger was born in Austria, and immigrated to America when he was 21. It was a dream of his since he was 10 years old. Before he became a dedicated politician, his biggest interests were bodybuilding and acting, at a professional level. He referred to his earlier career in the beginning of his speech; “This is like winning an Oscar! As if I would know! Speaking of acting, one of my movies was called “True Lies”. It’s what the democrats should have called their convention” We have all seen Terminator and know that Schwarzenegger was a good actor, and that he knew what he was doing. That is why it is smart of him to use his former acting career in his speech, improving his ethos. It makes it more personal, and it makes the audience feel that he knows what he is talking about, also the logos appeal. This speech really addressed to everyone who is interested in politics, no matter their age. Schwarzenegger’s speech specially goes out to the proud Americans, who are proud of their country, and wants it to stay as it is. “Do you know how proud I was? I was so proud that I walked around with an American flag around my shoulders all day long” This is how he ends the intro of his speech.
