Cyberbullying: analyse af artikler og retorik

In text number one, which is an article written by Nina Lakhani published by an independent website, Nina Lakhani states that one in five children have been victim of cyber bullying. Lakhani also says that this kind of bullying is just as bad, if not worse, than the traditional form of bullying. She also mentions that this can and have lead up to suicides, and she suggests that we as a society should bring this problem to light and do something about it.Text number two is an article from the guardian, “Hate and the Internet” written by Aleks Krotoski. Krotoski starts explaining about his first time in a chatroom, and how he went in there anonymously feeling like he could say or do anything, because people would not know who he was. Krotoski puts the blame on the internet, and suggests that it encourages this kind of “insidious and bullying behavior”. Krotoski also mentions that the internet does invite people to be open-minded but, it actually does the opposite, people are finding other people who share their opinions, ideas and ideologies.

In text number two written by Aleks Krotoski “Hate and the internet: Does the internet encourage insidious and bullying behaviour?” Krotoski changes the way he discusses the subject and comes with different forms of argumentations. For example, he uses all three appealing methods, etos, logos and Pathos, these three methods are used to catch different readers. He starts the text by strengthening his ethos, when he tells us how his first time in a chatroom went. At this point, the readers already knows that Krotoski has tried these forms of chatrooms himself and now he seems more credible. He describes this feeling of being anonymous as “the thrill of anonymity”, he now seem like someone who have been on both sides of this debate. He also mentions that he did in fact bully someone online and describes it as “brief but satisfying tirade of mockery”. Now Krotoski briefly switches to Pathos, which appeals to the emotions, he mentions how “the sense of release I experienced in 10 minutes of childishness has remained in the back of my mind ever since” this statement shows how he has a guilty conscience and feels bad for taking part in cyber bullying. After this Krotoski appeals via logos “I started studying in the web” when he says this it also strengthens his ethos, as he comes forward as somehow who knows what he is talking about. Krotoski now starts speaking data, which the reader of cause the reader now believes thanks to his strong ethos. Krotoski says, “Data traffics indicates that, online we are increasingly talking to people just like ourselves. This statement, combined with other logos statements, helps him get his message through. The message about how the internet is encouraging cyber bullying he finishes off by saying that “online hatred is real, and can have a very real effect”. By saying this he urges people to do something about this seemingly growing problem.
