In the painting I see a lady. She sits in a chair with a white sheet on. Her feet is on a footstool with red velours on. She sits with a cup in her hands and her look is going directly towards the window with white curtains. All of her clothes are dark except her bracelet which is of silver. Half of the picture is very dark and the other part with a lot of light. In the dark side there is a candlestick with tree red candles and on the wall a panting where you can only see half of the painting. In the light side is the big window with white curtains. The window fills a lot in the painting.
The lady sits in both parts of the painting. The dark and the light side. The sunlight hits the lady’s body and face and she got a little smile on her lips.
I think that she is looking happy, but still she is sad about something. The little smile she has got on her lips look like sadness and happiness. She look like the sweet, special lady which people like, the lady which have what every lady wants. Still I think that she is feeling lonely. Maybe because of her parents, maybe because of some friends or a husband which are not there for her anymore, and maybe because of a third thing. She is hiding that she had a bad past and do not want to tell anyone. Maybe she had a bad experience with her parents who perhaps are dead now, or might died when she had her childhood. The light and darkness means that she has been in the dark side for a while with bad experiences, but now she is trying to move on, because of her face which is going toward the light.
