America is known to be the country of opportunities, a country of free will. This statement is a reality in Grete Gerwig’s drama/comedy “Lady Bird”. The film takes place in the free America in a causal lower-class US family.
The film” Lady Bird” shows a classic coming of age narrative, that explores the transition from being young and insecure to be an independent adult. The film describes the emotional turmoil of being a teenager and all the good and bad decisions that comes with it.
The film is set in 2002. Christine "Lady Bird" is a senior at a Catholic high school in Sacramento. Despite her family's financial struggles, she longs to attend a prestigious college. Her mother feels that Christine is ungrateful for what she has. Her father gets fired, is launched into a depression and from then on everything just goes down. Lady Bird starts relationships with boys from the high school, but it’s not what she expected. She sacrifices herself and her good friend Julie, to be something she is not. Christine finds her identity, and now it’s all coming to light. She decides in a hurry to leave her family, friends and her town to go to New York to finish her university.
