The script Circus Lady is about a middleaged woman who is not very wealthy and lives by the welfare check. Her son John is a young boy who’s taking care of his mother, but who now leaves her to get a job. The script is told over one day in their life, where you at first meet John and his mother Marie, in an aguement about wheater he can leave her or not. Later on john leaves her and the welfare man comes around to see if Marie is still entitled to recive money form the welfare system. The welfare man is new in the job and therefore he’s not tired of his job yet, so he investigates her past and finds out she’s using the system to get more money.
Later on in the script Ruth, Marie’s sister, comes by, and they have a chat too.
The story takes place in Eastern Bronx in New York, which is not quite the nicest part of the city. The Perez (John Marie and Ruth) is certainly not among the richest of people, and they practicly lives by the welfare check.
