We live in a world now, where it is accepted by most people to have different skin colors, culture and religion. This short story is a good example of children have other opinions than their parents, but also how? easily parents? can affect them to change their minds on something, or just change their minds on something. ?In this story, the children listen so much to their parents. The parents tell the girl Allison in the story how to act around black people, even if she may not have the same opinion.
The people we meet in this story, are the main character, Allison and the new girl, whose name we don’t know. The main character was 8, in the beginning of the story. ?He? spends a lot of time with Allison, because they live ?on? the same block, as the only children. Just like it’s written in the story (P2-L1-2) ?“During the summer, we spent a lot of time riding our bikes, playing Clue, and pretending to be married”. ?The main character ?does not? have a problem with the new girl, or that she has a different skin color. But when Allison mentions (P2-L25-26) ?“Get out of here nigger!” ?He starts to copy Allison, and ?behaves? just like her, by calling the new girl, the n word, just like Allison. We can feel that she’s ashamed of what she said in the story, just by walking by her, and avoiding the new girl eyes. The narrator is also the main character, as ?the story is being? told in a 1st ?person’s? point of view.
