One day a girl moves in to Prospect Street, who is a white middle class quarter. The girl, who is black, is sweet and has a wonderful, open smile. Unfortunately the other girl on her way, Allison, she is not ready to accept the new girl because she has a different skin color. Alison has her prejudice from her parents and she is careless, if she hurts the little girl.
The narrator is in a difficult situation - on the one hand he like to be friendly against the new girl, but on the other hand he is afraid to contradict Allison, who is two years older than him. The pressure from the friend decides his action. Twenty years later he has still not become his bad conscience quits.
