The transformation of young people into adults can be difficult to get used to, and parents are in control of their children, they want their children to look a certain way and do something they care about and that’s a problem in many countries/places.
The short story “The Fat Girl” is about a girl named Louise although the story, you see a development from her struggle with her weight.
The story is told in a 3rd person narrator and is limited to Louise point of view.
The setting is United States, some of the action also takes place at school, where Louise barely eats. The action moves from the small town in Louisiana to the college dorm in Massachusetts.
You can get a sense of setting, where the things are going and her living conditions.
“No one saw the sandwiches she made and took to her room when she came home from school. No one saw the store of Milky Ways, Butterfingers, Almond Joys, and Hersheys far back on her closet shelf, behind the stuffed animals of her childhood. The school was in Massachusetts, a girls' school.” In this part of the story, you can see that Louise doesn't want people to start judging her and start bullying her with her weight. so, she keeps a large part of herself, lock in. If she wants to bring food into her room, she should do it without people talking about her or judging her.
